Increase Your Income Without Starting From Scratch (repurposing tips)

December 11, 2024

I had a realization recently while reviewing my plans for this year and the next. One of my goals is to develop new offerings, like a mini course or other resources. While I’m excited about these ideas, it suddenly hit me: Why not create from what I already have?

When this idea clicked, I felt a wave of relief. This year has been challenging on a personal level, and I’ve often felt “behind” in my business. But this realization was freeing—I don’t always have to start from scratch to create something valuable.

If you’ve been feeling the pressure to develop brand-new offerings, I want you to know: You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to support others and grow your income.

For sensitive entrepreneurs, creating something entirely new can be an energy-intensive process. It takes time, focus, and emotional effort. This is particularly challenging if you’re navigating fluctuating energy levels or balancing life’s demands as a solopreneur. That’s why repurposing can be such a powerful and sustainable way to grow your business.

Repurposing your past work isn’t just about saving time; it’s about honoring the energy you’ve already invested and adapting your good ideas into something fresh and valuable.

Why Repurposing Is Powerful for Sensitive Entrepreneurs

Repurposing is a form of energy management. This is a gentler way to grow your business and support your audience without having to start from square one. You may already have a great offering that just needs a little refinement. Updating or expanding on an existing idea is often quicker and less overwhelming because it’s familiar territory.

Sensitive women entrepreneurs often pour depth and feeling into their work, which is beautiful and meaningful. Yet, due to this natural way of being, creating new offerings from scratch can sometimes feel daunting.

Repurposing offers a lighter path forward, allowing you to be in alignment with your energy while continuing to serve your clients. This approach can be especially beneficial during seasons of low energy or times of collective shifts, such as Mercury Retrograde or Mars Retrograde, when the cosmos invites us to slow down and reflect. Sensitive entrepreneurs often sense these energetic currents, which can influence their creative flow and business pace. Repurposing during these times can align your work with what feels manageable and intuitive.

The beauty of this method is that it’s not just beneficial for you—it’s valuable for your audience, too. Revisiting and expanding on past creations gives your clients consistency and builds trust. It allows you to deepen the support you provide, layering on new ways to serve them.

You might also find a creative spark in revisiting your past work. It’s almost like uncovering a hidden treasure: you give yourself the chance to build on something meaningful and reimagine it in new ways. Like a gift from your past self.

Reflecting on your past work isn’t just about efficiency, but also about inspiration. Who knows, you might find ideas you’ve forgotten! It’s an opportunity to breathe new life into something you already know works well.

Practical Ways to Repurpose Your Offerings

Start by looking at what’s working well in your business. What past offerings have your clients genuinely loved? These could be paid offerings or free resources that resonated deeply with your audience.

For instance:

  • Could you expand on ideas in a free guide and turn them into an ebook?

  • What about transforming a workshop into a mini course?

  • Can you group together several digital products into a cohesive package?

When it comes to repurposing, being strategic with your time and energy is key. Start by brainstorming the possibilities, then ask yourself: What’s the next simplest step? Would it make more sense to build up, adding more depth to an offering? Or, simplify down, creating resources specific to one topic or concept?

Consider your financial goals as part of this strategy. Do you want your income to primarily come from active work, like sessions with clients? Or, passive sources, like instant access courses or downloadable products? Organizing your repurposing efforts with how you want to earn your income can be supportive of your energy levels and lifestyle.

Some practical ways to repurpose include:

  • Refining and updating an existing offering to give it a fresh look or new features.

  • Bundling offerings to create a more comprehensive package for your audience.

  • Changing formats to reach your audience in a new way, such as turning written content into video or audio.

As you explore these possibilities, remember to listen to your intuition. Your inner knowing or gut feeling is one of your best guides for deciding what direction is right for you and your business.

A Repurposing Example From My Business

One of the best examples of repurposing in my business is the Gentle Client Boundaries: Customizable Email Template Collection. This collection was created with Ashlee Sang, a brand messaging strategist, and it had a different name. Its initial purpose was to guide entrepreneurs in creating exceptional client experiences while protecting their time and energy.

At its core, the collection was designed to simplify client communication. The intention was to make sure clients felt informed and supported at every step of their journey. A positive client experience deepens relationships and can also lead to repeat business and worth-of-mouth referrals. These are powerful ways to grow organically.

With careful reflection, from conversations with fellow entrepreneurs and reviewing the digital product – it became clear there were more benefits to this collection. Communicating boundaries to clients is something that tends to be challenging for sensitive women (speaking from personal experience too). Keeping that in mind, a new section “Set Gentle Boundaries” was added to the comprehensive Notion guide, along with updates to the templates.

This refined version of the collection equips entrepreneurs to provide thoughtful client care while maintaining healthy boundaries. Each template is designed to set clear expectations and communicate with heart, offering a proactive way to respect your own energy while supporting your clients.

Where to Start

As you know, I’m a big fan of working in phases. I’ve found this to be a flexible way, especially when my energy is lower. This natural strategy also gives me the steps to complete something in my business at my own pace.

A possible repurposing phased approach for you:

Phase 1, Observe and Start Small: Identify an offering that has been well-received and that you’re also proud of creating. This is a starting point.

Phase 2, Reflect and Ask Yourself: How could this be refined, expanded, or transformed into something else?

Phase 3, Plan With Intention: Determine the steps you’ll take to repurpose your offering.

Phase 4, Create: Work at your own pace and develop on what you’ve already created.

Phase 5, Share and Celebrate: Let your audience know your new offering is available!

Repurposing your work is more than just a practical business strategy. Refining, bundling or reformatting what you’ve already created is a sustainable way to grow your business. It’s also a gentler way to work with your own energy.

As you move forward, listen to your intuition and let it guide you toward the choices that feel most aligned. Growth doesn’t have to come from starting fresh every time; sometimes, it’s about building on the solid foundation you’ve already created.

Your past work holds incredible value, let it inspire your next steps.
